READY FOR "SILENT HILL REVELATION 3D"?

I remember one day having written that no matter what the critics and the box office said about this film;  also i remember that I ask myself why God make me wait so long..
Now I can say ... God knows what he does.

I also remember that i was unsure of doing something similar to what i have done with "DmC", but not always there are films based on our favorite video games. So let's start (Do not forget that this is not a professional review ... just what my mind thought).

But this time I'll talk about the points that could could influence to death to any film.: directing, writing and acting.. Also I'm gonna talk about the sound and the soundtrack but less focused to it,I'm only going to mention these details beacause  even they can win an Oscar ... the other three are the most relevant to the survival or absolute glory of the film.

I.-DIRECTION                                                                                                                                        .

The director's chair is occupied now by "Michael J. Bassett" (DeathWatch & Solomon Kane) and the film version of Solomon did make me thought that we had already another good director for Silent Hill that could bring  another tastefully vision ("Christophe Gans ", the director of the first movie, knew very well how to recreate the terrifying" darkness "of the cursed town.).
But the result is not rusty and grotesque enough for a story that Silent Hill need or deserve.
He has good cinematography but a director who uses only 20 million to make this world ... is like trying to build the world of "Dragon Ball" with the same budget.

Make it clear, that in the end the budget does not predict success or warrant the fall of the films. Bringing glory if matter of the characters and a story with meaning, without forgeting all the other elements that fit into the operation.

"The Brookhaven Asylum was the best scenario."
Within the visual, the best place was the madhouse or "Brookhaven Asylum", although it had some details that did not seem frightening..
When Heather is gripped by the hair, coupled with inhuman madness on multiple cells and a perfect Leonard Wolf... level to 100% !

Then the other scenarios are passable, but not enough to what this world needs. Because what we do need is to convert the "image" into our enemy. In Silent Hill you use a flashlight for some reason (Except SH 4: The Room), but in the two films we can still see a little in the dark. There has to be a darkness that makes us tremble by thinking what is out there, from the terrifying sounds composed by Akira Yamaoka, whose compositions weren't good used in this film.

At least Michael was fine with the casting, scenarios (most passable) but the visual effects were retained.
Never burn a person alive if the result is a dummy that does not know where it came from. Nor do a person walking in a fog semi-finished and not spend effort on a 3D that adds nothing "psychological" to a world of "TERROR-psychological".
If they spent to much in that ... should not.  Nor in some scenes of the nurses ... they are nothing of that!
And the gore of the film .. better to focus on the psychological or shots that make you think. The butcher was not anything at all!
And there was a take on the carrucel scene that lacked the stress that supossed the scene, Michael apparently did not see this.

At the end, it wasn't the best job and it hurts me that his biggest mistake is the following one.

II.-SCRIPT                                                                                                                                              .

If this thing is messy, inconsistent and poorly positioned (here the order of the factors does affect the product) we are dead.
Silent Hill Revelation was condemned to total crucifixion. Some things are saved it ... though not in the scripting.
It was just so, so ... I felt that i was being shooted.

During the first 10 to 15 minutes we were fine, but then we went down the drain. When "Vincent" appears like a good boy and not as a mask man with filthy thoughts, it's eliminated the possibility of making more difficult and painful the journey that the protagonist must face. At first I thought this was a cynical character mask but resulted only what we saw. The script attempt to turn this but it turn without moving ... Can you understand?!

The actors did their best but no actor survives to be stabbed in the back, like this. (Although Harry survived one ... funny.)

"This monster shouldn't open it's mouth."
How someone may think writing a dialogue of "Tell me who I really am" when the guy who you ask has been cut off his fingers in that moment?! Or why  talking quietly when no one is around and you talked normally a few seconds before. Yes, it gives you the intention afraid but there weren't enough elements in the same movie for fear the "Order of Valtiel".

Why change the great Vincent for a teenager to make cliché predictable scenes, or leave out 87% of the film Claudia Wolf?! Why to "Pyramid Head" is hard to move its great knife,  if after he can hold it as a toothpick? And the reunion of Sharon and Christopher (Harry) is so ... AHHHHHH!

But why, why write an ending so bad?! In Silent Hill nobody gets completely happy ... I understand ... the film wanted to this but if the script said that they wept and put smiles of happiness that has no reason to be ... It's not right!
Except that the last 17 to 19 seconds were acceptable, passable and somewhat peculiar (not with the full potential of the same word). Was not the best move to improve.

In total, the script was thrown down the drain. Although three lines of dialogue from the film can be save from this disaster. (Mind you, these phrases are more powerful when you understood and / or hear some lines above them and if you put a little imagination of the Silent Hill world).
The first is the line that tells Leonard to Heather about the power of the Metatron: "-The true nature of things."
And two lines of "Alessa" in the Carrucel "-Every one have a different nightmare in Silent Hill" and "Don't you see ...? We are already here (Hell)."
Those lines could be much more but the whole script drowned in the sands.

Essentially the script could have more potential, regardless of the type of Vincent placed in the story and Claudia been relegate to the abyss of oblivion. It could be good or very good, but not groundbreaking. If had worked as a well made cliche ... would have been saved (as "Priest 3D" is a cliché but it is good cliché). But management failed to see how to fill those cracks between scenes and sequences.
And the direction mentioned too in this factor, as the director and the writer are the same Michael.
It's not bad being in these two chairs, but when you run bad ... Pain can be double fault. Between the two, in my opinion ... the script was his death sentence (not forgetting that rescued three lines above.).

III.-ACTING                                                                                                                                           .

Here, one can already feel much better but that will be difficult with such a script...

The actress who plays one of my favorite characters in video games, a character which i cross one of the most scariest games of my life, gave a very good performance. But again (necessary) his talent is sifting in shadows that do not belong to the world of Silent Hill because of the script.
I really do not regret remember her when thinking about Heather. Adelaide Clemens (Wasted on the young) is a good actress, very talented.

Kit Harington (Games of Thrones) is also a good actor, but his character Vincent doesn't have many opportunities to stand or even sit.
"They did the best performance possibles within the walls of the disastrous script that chained them".

Anyway, everyone did what they could: Sean Bean, Carrie-Ann Moss, etc.
All personally, fought and survived and will survive this.
Ah, but who managed to dazzle the role by been in the right and appropriate place was"Malcolm McDowell" (Clockwork Orange, Heroes, etc.) who plays "Leonard Wolf." You can always expect a lunatic inside by his voice and look.
"This Leonard Wolf was one of the best things on the movie".
In the end I could mention a few things that did make me survive this terrible trip (can be usefull for those who will watch it again or for the first time):

1. - The soundtrack has some of the best compositions of Akira Yamaoka (composer and sound editor in almost every game in the franchise), although they saturated these by using them occasionally.
2. - In the "end credits" of the film are two spectacular songs composed by Akira Yamaoka, "Rain of Brass Petals (SH 3 OST)" and a new song with Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. If a fan is reading this and have not heard it... here is a link. "SILENT SCREAM".
3. - The stage of the asylum is the best of all ... the others are passables.
4. - The actors are good, Malcolm is awesome (within it's limitations) and Adelaide is a great Heather.

But then, another chance to get out these films from the mud was lost (According to critic, box office and divided fans.).

"Silent Hill Revelation 3D is not recommended for the most demanding fan of the game or a movie lover. But at the end of all (I think) the tastes are tastes. I have no problem seeing it again, only if i have the remote control to skip some parts. And a few times I'll sit and will watch the full movie.
But yes, I must admit that I was shot as I watched.
The film is not the degree to spit (There is true dedication of many in the production) or exile her, but I can say ... or write ... the film does not use their tools well, finishing in the breakdown of their opportunities to be a good movie and a good adaptation of the myths of Silent Hill.

"At least this poster looks awesome."
